Landing page design
Booknooker was a small project, but one I grew particularly fond of. I had complete creative freedom to shape the ideas and visual direction for a website dedicated to literature and the people who love it.
I saw literature as a vast ocean of thoughts, stories and perspectives. That became the connecting idea for the page: an invitation to embark on a literary odyssey, with a wave running through the experience. I kept the core visual language consistent, then gave each kind of content a format of its own.
A warm, paper-like background sets the tone for dedicated readers. Bold condensed headlines bring character, while fine dividing lines and a restrained palette give the content a clear editorial structure. I wanted the page to feel considered and expressive, with enough variation to make each section worth exploring.

01 / Discovery
The first review section turns the oversized opening statement into something to explore. Each feature pairs a book cover with a title, a short introduction and a clear reading link. The shared grid keeps the information easy to follow, while the covers bring colour and individuality to the paper-like setting.
02 / People
Literature is also about the people behind the words. I gave the featured author a generous portrait and an oversized outlined name. The other authors remain visible as narrow vertical tabs: one story has space to unfold, while the next possibilities stay in view. The layout gives the section its own character within the same visual system.
03 / A single focus
The book-of-the-month feature changes the pace. A tilted cover overlaps oversized outline lettering and a narrow strip of repeated text, giving one title a clear focal point. The shift in scale adds a more expressive moment between the structured sections, while the familiar typography and palette keep it connected to the rest of the page.
04 / Browsing
For recommendations, I moved to a denser, shelf-like grid. Consistent positions for titles and author names make the collection easy to scan, and genre filters provide another way into it. An expanded cover gives the selected book more presence. The idea was to balance the pleasure of browsing with enough structure to keep a large collection readable.
05 / Longer reading
The article cards give longer writing its own editorial format. Images establish a mood; headlines and short excerpts introduce the subject. Author details, reading times and topic labels help readers judge where to spend their attention. Each card follows the same hierarchy, allowing very different subjects to sit together without losing their individual appeal.
06 / Returning to the idea
At the footer, the single wave becomes a series of layered lines. Literature had been the ocean of thoughts and ideas behind the design; here, that idea returns to close the page. The outlined wordmark keeps a strong presence beside the newsletter invitation, leaving the reader with a way to stay connected. The ending carries the same idea as the opening, with more depth and repetition.
