Description
I created four artworks for Mouno Shonchar, an EP by Sabrin Kriti and Teerath Majumder that revisits timeless classics by Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam and Atul Prasad Sen. As the musicians brought these songs into a new conversation with acoustic instruments and electronic sound, I explored what they could become as images. Each artwork grew from my understanding of a song, expressed through my own visual style.

Bengali and Latin lettering sit among the fish, birds and flowers from the artworks, connecting the EP’s title to its illustrated world.

Four songs. Four artworks.
I followed the feelings and images that stayed with me: the sweep of a wave, the closeness of two people on a swing, the pull of distant joy, a boat coming to rest. These are my readings of the songs. I’ve given them form in the paintings, while leaving room for each listener to find their own meaning.

Song 01 / 04
Bipul Torongo
বিপুল তরঙ্গ
I hear an expansive, almost physical joy in Tagore’s song: a wave moving through the universe, carrying the sun, moon and stars with it. I brought that energy into a figure swept through curling blues. Birds, leaves and small creatures share the current, giving the whole painting the sense of being carried by something larger.

Song 02 / 04
Shonar Hindole
সোনার হিন্দোলে
Nazrul’s image of Radha and Krishna on a golden swing drew me towards the tenderness within the monsoon’s movement. Rain, wind and flowering trees surround their closeness. I placed the two figures beneath a broad canopy, letting the warmth between them sit alongside the dark, gathering clouds. For me, the song holds both intimacy and the restless life around it.

Song 03 / 04
Eto Anondodhwoni
এত আনন্দধ্বনি
What draws me into this song is its wonder: the sound of joy somewhere ahead, and the desire to follow it. Tagore asks what has drawn everyone towards that light. I pictured a world opening out in response, with reaching figures, birds, foliage and a bright sail. I used shifting proportions to let that sense of discovery move freely through the painting.

Song 04 / 04
Ami Badhinu
আমি বাঁধিনু
I read Atul Prasad Sen’s boat journey as a moment of surrender after exhaustion: setting out in hope, losing the way in a storm, then reaching a shore where one can finally rest. I gave that feeling the shape of a vast, curved figure holding a river and a small boat close. For me, the image is about the relief of finding somewhere to belong.
